ABOUT ABOUT

The 2014 London Organ Day takes us to St George's Hanover Square, famous for having been Handel's church, and home to a beautiful new organ by Richards, Fowkes & Co of Tennessee. This landmark instrument is possessed of a wealth of beautiful colours, and to my mind is one of the most interesting new arrivals on the London organ scene in some time. We'll have plenty of opportunities to hear it during the day. Appropriately enough, our theme is American music: Ann Elise Smoot will play the new organ at the end of the day, performing a diverse and fascinating programme, and we also welcome Kimberly Marshall who will introduce us to some early American organ music. This recital will use a Goetze and Gwynn organ built for the Handel House Museum in 1998, and now kept at St George's. Throw in some choral music, American hymnody and an astonishing new CD release from James McVinnie and New York composer Nico Muhly, and it seems we will have a music-filled day! Come and join us!
